Purpose
The purpose for Men's Discipleship at Canyon is to gather the men of the church to intentionally disciple them in the faith, equip them to disciple and mentor others, and establish and strengthen the bonds of fellowship with other men of the church.
“Intentional” and “deliberate” are distinctive’s of our Men's Discipleship opportunities. The structure of the studies, the material used, and the format of the gatherings, are designed so that by the power of God the Holy Spirit, the truth of His Word, and the community of His sons, these purposes can be accomplished.

What a blessing it is to hear of how our Lord is working in the lives of His body at Canyon. This is in part to the work you all are doing in ministering to the saints. It is my prayer that his next season of men’s and women’s discipleship will be formative and transformative in our faithfulness to both be a disciple and make disciples.
There will be seven sessions of discipleship starting next week. 6:30-8:00pm in the church lobby. Men gathering on Monday’s, and the women gathering on Tuesday’s. We are scheduled for the off-weeks of Koinonia Groups. K.G.’s meeting the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month, and Discipleship meeting the 2nd and 4th. You can visit the church website calendar for the dates.
This discipleship time will look a little different than last time, but also similar. There is no pre-reading or resource to work on before gathering, but there will be contemplation and heart work to do. When we are reminded to love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our might (Deut. 6:5) it’s important that we consider what this kind of love should look like in our life.
Our time together will be focused on how we respond to the truth of who God is and His instruction to us. I can testify that I’ve seen how an increased trust in God and His Word, ministers to my soul, and builds an even greater affection for Him. My prayer is that all who participate will likewise see the Lord and His glory, grow in love for Him, and therefore speak of Him, and rightly love others.
K.G. members will sit with their group, making sure to leave 2 empty seats at their table for those who attend that may not yet be part of a K.G. That means that if you have more than 6 K.G. members attending your group will need to multiply to a second table, preferably equally allocated. My other hope is that the relationships that we have with our K.G. members will grow in relationship with each other, so that conversations at K.G. will be enriched, along with frequencies of informal gathering.
The night will have a time of song, interactive teaching, table discussions, and further all group discussions, before closing out the time with table prayer.
As I’ve gathered with men over the past number of months this passage from Phil 4 has proved to be helpful, encouraging, and convicting towards repentance through faith - out of love. Be encouraged, the Lord is at work! He works from His character and capabilities. It just so happens that it is His delight to work through His body.
“4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” Phil 4:4-9
